Shading and Color

Today we discussed shading techniques and the use of color to accomplish certain techniques (using complimentary colors to create shadows, to make an image "pop," etc.).  I am still continue to treat these assignments as a sort of study and include them in my small sketchbook as a sort of journal about my experimentation.  All of the colored pencil were taken and I decided to try mediums I do not normally use (Cray-Pas and Pastels).

Perspective

Today we talked a lot about perspective (1, 2, and 3 point).  I wanted to experiment with a bunch of different techniques, so I did a quick sketch in all 3 perspectives, as well as experimenting with multiple vanishing points in linear perspective in order to create stairs.  The first page stairs I think turned out pretty well.  On the second page, I started setting up for a spiral staircase using an octagon, but have not finished it yet.  I think I will dedicate a blank page to this and really try to work it out.

Trompe l'oeil

Today we worked on drawing from a flat perspective.  I drew a pair of scissors on top of a chair cushion (looking at it from above) as well as one of those "third hand" magnifying glasses (it has little clips on each end) holding a colored pencil.  I wanted to try to make a few very flat drawings than try one large one I didn't like, but I'm not sure these are flat enough to be considered "trompe l'oeil."
